Above the Clouds

Album: Miles Before Today

Lyrics by Melissa Bianco

A gentle 1970s-inspired acoustic ballad with warm guitar and reflective female vocals, following a girl who hopes her flight above the clouds will reveal heaven.

Lyrics

A silver bird pulls up to the gate
Windows glitter in diamond shapes
Buckled in tight, the engines are loud
She’s on a trip to the clouds
Her arms sway, she’s ready to soar
Sure angels are beyond the door

Climbing higher, tiny toy cars
Patchwork landscape and dirt road scars
In a blink she’s in the swirl
She holds her breath, above the world
As clouds break, her brows sink low
No wings, harps, or roads of gold

Above the clouds
Just endless blue
No angels today
Just a nice view

Didn’t see what she thought would be there
Nothing but cotton drifting in air
Her forehead pressed against the pane
With a tight heart, she blinked again
She searched the sky from left to right
For the address of God in the white

She sat still, biting her lip
Maybe the angels missed this trip

Above the clouds
Just endless blue
No angels today
Just a nice view

Hands in pockets, hope slightly dimmed
She’d find heaven, just not on the wind
