Changes in the Wind
Album: Chance of a Lifetime
Lyrics by Melissa Bianco
A somber indie folk-rock ballad with clear, intimate female vocals and a restrained arrangement, reflecting on the loss of Paragon Studios.
Lyrics
We’d seen it a few times before
Other studios closing their doors
Couldn’t touch us, we thought
Happens to others, not us
But slowly things started to change
Big celebrations got low-key, strange
We were heads-down on new projects
Something familiar, something next
The meetings all sounded sincere
Then weeks went by, still nothing clear
They nodded, receptive, polite
But the silence afterward didn’t feel right
Something’s in the wind
Change is coming
We’re not the golden child
Do they know we’re alive?
Word came down not long after
They were letting us go, disaster
The Big Three chose to fight
Trying everything to set it right
Every week, a new pitch, new plea
We weren’t gonna take it quietly
We stood together, come what may
Keep on fighting, there was no other way
Something’s in the wind
Change is coming
We’re not the golden child
Do they know we’re alive?
We had one goal, fight harder
Started prepping a Kickstarter
Contacts, calls, relentless days
Trying to carve a different way
But what hurt most, what we didn’t know
They didn’t want us, wouldn’t let us go
Something’s in the wind
Change is coming
We’re not the golden child
Do they know we’re alive?
There were talks and offers on the table
All seemed willing, but not quite able
No plan, no pivot changed their mind
We were living on borrowed time
We gathered in the kitchen that day
Brian’s voice cracked, tears wiped away
This was the end, Paragon was over
We sat in silence, stunned and sober
Something’s in the wind
Change is coming
We’re not the golden child
Do they know we’re alive?
Most of the team left that same day
My last assignment, a month to stay
Needed me there while they dismantled the walls
Echoes of life floated out the halls
It broke my heart in every way
Watching everything get stripped away
Piece by piece, it disappeared
Like we were never here
(Like we were never here)
