Coming Home
Album: Chance of a Lifetime
Lyrics by Melissa Bianco
A warm, mid-tempo rock ballad with sincere female vocals and a gently uplifting finish, reflecting on returning to Paragon City and passing the torch to its new caretakers.
Lyrics
Heard rumors, but never to my face
About a remnant who wouldn’t be displaced
Fearing retribution, I never tried to confirm
Part of me just couldn’t return
Too many memories, good times and bad
Nostalgia for people and places was all I had
So I turned my shoulder into the night
Kept walking away into the moonlight
Can’t come home, not for a minute
The house is vacant, no one’s in it
No reason to wallow in memories, I guess
Just existing there as a ghost’s address
Years went by and I’d moved on
The twist of irony came with my job
Back to a world of villains to slay
The game of my career, AAA, eh
From there, a startup and a passion project
Then came an email I didn’t expect
CoH got the approval from the publisher
The fan-driven venture, official structure
I’m coming home, just for a visit
It’s your place now, isn’t it
I won’t be here long, I’m your guest
Love what you’ve done, I’m so impressed
Would you mind supporting us with an event?
Put on the old costume for a contest?
I thought about it for a minute or less
Support them? Of course I said yes
Some of us OGs from the past
Gathered together again, suited up fast
Did interviews with PC Gamer
About the return, fan-favorite savior
I’m coming home, just for a visit
It’s your place now, isn’t it
I won’t be here long, I’m your guest
Love what you’ve done, I’m so impressed
After so many years I’d forgotten it all
Getting into my gear, answered the call
When it was time, I was ported to the zone
Judging the costumes, felt right at home
Is it you, War Witch, not a trick or surprise?
Yeah, it’s me, is that dust in my eyes?
So many faces, old ones and new
I could barely contain what I felt breaking through
I’m coming home, just for a visit
It’s your place now, isn’t it
I won’t be here long, I’m your guest
Love what you’ve done, I’m so impressed
Into fond memories, I was swept
My husband before me, like we never left
I took one last picture before I went
His character, my cat, and mine, full-circle event
Said my goodbyes to devs old and new
Some I hadn’t seen for a decade or two
The game had been resurrected
It was the last thing I expected
I’d come home, just for a visit
It’s your place now, isn’t it
I didn’t stay long, I was your guest
Love what you did to the place, impressed
Yes, I’d come home, just for a visit
Some say you can’t go back, not for a minute
It’s never the same, don’t risk it
Against the odds, they were wrong
Paragon City was going strong
I couldn’t have been prouder that day
One last look, and then I faded away
(One last look, and then I faded away)
