Wooden Faces

Album: Miles Before Today

Lyrics by Melissa Bianco

Reflective 1970s-inspired acoustic music with subtle Celtic textures and warm female vocals, revisiting a beloved childhood place changed by time and the perspective of age.

Lyrics

She stared at his face carved in wood
Bright tufts of moss formed his beard
Wildflowers gathered at his shoulders
A kingdom she once revered

Morning settled low in mist
The air thick, earthy and slow
Flat stone paths led off to the trees
Where did they used to go?

Breathe it in, the way it was
Touch it while you can
Some things don’t survive the years
The way they did back then

Bridges of rope swayed high above
This was a place she dearly loved
The wooden faces shaped and hewn
When the world still felt true

Years later, she came again
The grass thin, the colors drained
The giants smaller than she’d sworn
Their wooden cheeks split and torn

She stood there a very long while
The mist no longer stayed
Some things shine in younger light
But dim as they age

Take it in, the way it was
Touch it while you can
Some things don’t survive the years
The way they did back then

Some things don’t survive the years
The way they did back then
